Components of Patient Lifts:
- Lifting Arm/Boom: The part of the lift that rises and lowers.
- Sling: A piece of fabric that supports the patient during the transfer. Slings come in various designs and sizes, and some are designed for specific types of transfers (e.g., standing, full-body, or bath transfers).
- Base: Usually has two legs that can be spread apart for stability and brought together to maneuver the lift around furniture or other obstacles.
- Casters/Wheels: Allow the lift to be rolled smoothly. Larger rear wheels make the lift easier to push, while smaller front wheels help in maneuverability.
- Controls: These can be either manual (like a pump) or electronic (buttons or a remote).
Transfer Chairs:
- Function: These are chairs on wheels designed to help caregivers transfer patients from one place to another, especially over longer distances.
- Design: They often look similar to wheelchairs but are optimized for patient transfers. They might have drop-down sides, tilt functions, or other features to aid in the transfer process.
